Time and Decisions

Time comes at the same pace for everybody. 24 hours a day, 60 minutes an hour, 60 seconds a minute. Time is a currency that we take for granted because of the way in which it comes, automatically, because we exist. We wake up and it’s there. Choosing where to spend our time is up to us. We use this currency to buy memories, consequences, regrets, and triumphs.

After assessing where the program needs to be and how much time I choose to give the program, I have decided that the program will be better under someone else’s care. This was not an easy decision for me, but it is the right one.

After our last game I had an overwhelming feeling of my inadequacy as a coach. I haven’t been able to bring the program to the heights I had envisioned, nor had the success I had imagined. However, I do think that my time coaching was time well spent. I learned a lot, have incredible memories, new friendships, some regrets, and the satisfaction of giving of myself so others can benefit.

I have learned a lot about myself throughout these last five years. The wise Ghandi once said that the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. I hope you as players take the opportunity to serve your community, family, friends, classmates, and coworkers. No matter what the outcome, you will have used your time in a very fulfilling way, and the world will be that much better.

Thank you parents for your help and support. Thank you players for doing your best. I’m honored to be a part of your life and hope to be able to continue to benefit you in any way I can.
Thanks for spending your precious time with me.

Love,
Coach Taylor and Dresden

Timpanogos - Maple Mountain

Timpanogos 0 - 2 - Maple Mountain

I was a little disappointed with the result of this game. We came out slow and they scored two savable goals in the first five minutes. This isn't an indictment of our goalkeepers, but an indictment of the team as a whole. When you are a young, talented team, you cannot come out slow and expect to out-muscle teams.

Sometimes in life you get only one chance. If you miss that chance you have to work twice as hard to have that opportunity again. Work is the great equalizer, not talent. Talent will get you through some games, but watch the great teams. Some have superior talent, but many do not. Learn how to work better than anybody else and you'll be better than everyone else.

Player of the Game: David Johnson - he shifted the momentum every time he was in.

Timpanogos vs Springville

Timpanogos 5 - 2 Springville

I'm glad you were able to see how well you can play together. When things click playing is a lot more fun. The only thing different in this game from the rest of the games was your work ethic. You ALL worked hard. When you all work hard together, things get easier, better, and success is a more likely outcome of your efforts.

Goals: Alex Jessop (2), Ryan Howell, Salvadore Sanchez, Ethan Glazier
Assists: Oscar Cruz (2), Jordan Strong

Player of the Game: Salvadore Sanchez - won many balls high on the pitch and scored a great free kick

Provo - Timpanogos

Timpanogos 0 - 3 Provo

Player of the game - JV

I played in a couple games in the last few weeks and forgot how much running soccer is. I was tired within minutes of both games. I watched the JV boys go into the game, give it their all, and sub out. I'm always impressed with people who give "it" their all, whatever "it" may be.

Many times we give "it" our all and fail, even fail miserably. In these circumstances I often hear, this isn't fair, I worked so hard, but I've done everything I can. All of these are valid points, but miss the mark when we look at these from a life-enriching perspective. What if we stop giving "it" our all after a failure?

Failure teaches us as well if not better than success. If failure has taught you to blame others, stop trying, cry, or complain, then you are missing out on vital learning experiences that will shape you as an individual. Winston Churchill said, "Success consists of going from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm."

How many times has Messi missed easy chances? How many times have you seen great players play awful? In the NBA finals in 1994 I watched John Starks miss 11 three pointers - 11! He is still the all-time leader in Knick's history for MADE three pointers. The only person to miss more three pointers in a playoff game is.....Steph Curry who missed 13!

What you do with failure will largely determine how much success you will have in this life.

Timpanogos - Put on the Gas

Just finished watching the Corner Canyon game. I'm amazed at how slow we came out, but how hard we finished. What was the change? Why did we wait until the second half to really put on the gas? Shows heart and we'll move on from here. Watch this video to see what's possible when good teams put on the gas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgUMJKGnOUg
