Be Yourself

Great article on Leicester City.

I think this highlights why the things that work for you club team may not work in our system. We need to play our system and listen to what I'm trying to teach you.

Our system is a system designed to highlight our fitness: long runs, overlaps, attacking out of the defense, unpredictability, pressing. Our system is not possession, holding the ball in the middle, strategic dives and fouls.

This may surprise you, but not one system is better than another. The best system is the system the entire team believes in and plays together.

  1. 1. Although I agree with the intent of the article about "leverage" and "be yourself". It is clearly a mistake to take as a referent point a team that in its entire existence has won only 1 title. We look for the successful patterns in team and players to emulate. The more they succeed, the more we authority they gain, the more we follow them.
    2. If your system is to highlight your fitness only you are in the wrong sport. American Football and maybe weight lifting will be better suited for that mindset. Soccer is a team sport and by the nature of the game, possession, strategy and passing are key elements. Your body will get tired from long runs while your strategic mind will never run out of ideas how to get closer to make a goal. Note that the best player today in the world is Messy. Many even before him, have not been the "most athletic", taller or stronger. Hint: Fitness is important but not the key.
    3. The assumption that no system is better than others is false. Otherwise all teams in the world-cup should have similar number of tittles. This is not the case. Brazil, Germany, Argentina, England. Have proven time after time the best system is "To Use the abilities of their players to maximize the team's efficiency".

Sorry to disagree with you but I too am "Being Myself" as you are "Being Yourself"
